Taught by fiber artist Analise Minjarez, these beginning knots are the first steps to a continued practice is textile crafts. Using cord, you will create a unique lace plant hanger that includes a succulent, planter, cord, and brass ring.

From the rich history of American textiles arts to contemporary natural dye artists, explore the art and science of natural dyes. Students will focus on printing and dyeing polychromatic designs onto cloth and painting botanical inks compositions onto paper using botanical plants and dyes like cochineal, marigold and indigo. Note: Tuition includes a $20 additional material fee.

Learn to print on cloth with clay resist paste and over dye with organic indigo! The first day, students will learn how to make collograph plates out of easy to find materials, discuss cloth stretching techniques, review fabric gridding methods, and learn simple textile printing approaches to create their clay resist printed cloth. The second day, students will learn how to make and maintain an organic fructose indigo vat and will work in groups to dye, rinse, and hang their clay resisted artworks. Cotton and silk noil fabrics will be used and students will leave with samples of printed cloth with unique designs for use in future projects. Please see the SSA website for a list of material.

Create a beautiful and functional twined basket in the round. Learn how to weave with round reed, begin with a six pointed star base and weave a spiral to form the basket. Finish the lip of the basket and add a leather strap to hang on the wall. This is a wonderful beginning level basket weaving class, all levels are welcome.

This workshop will explore the use of botanical inks on cotton paper and simple bookbinding techniques. Learn how to mix harmonious natural inks with cochineal, marigold, and cutch to receive a wide range of colors on paper. Then bind your pages up using the Japanese stab binding

Tierra Firme invites the community of Oak Cliff to engage with the Land Loom
shelter for the month of May. Join us for a tapestry weaving workshop, artist talk,
and drop in weaving hours. Participants will be invited to weave a woven image
of the urban landscape of Jefferson Blvd using recycled clothing and yarn from
the neigborhood and donated by the community. Using the 8' x 8' frame of the
Land Loom as a viewfinder, participants will weave the civic landscape they see
using basic techniques of twining and plain weave. The collaborative woven
landscape emphasizes exploration of regional identity, time, and place.

Participants will collaborate with us to create a woven tapestry that reflects the civic landscape of the campus. The final artwork will become part of the Eastfield College Permanent Art Collection and each participant will have their name featured as a contributed to the artwork.
